A Self-Assessment To Track How You’re Feeling

LAST UPDATED: April 6, 2022

With changing lifestyle and routine, comes the need to keep a regular check on your health. Since the pandemic has hit, we have witnessed changes not only in our personal lives but professional lives as well. Stretched working hours, long sitting hours, and unblinkable focus on the screen may have caused stress, tension, and a severe impact on health. We may not notice at first, but this leaves a lifelong thing to worry about.

And as we all know, there’s a famous saying, “Health is Wealth;” it brings the urge to self-assess your health at regular intervals. We know it is not feasible to go to a doctor every week or month, but it is viable to take note of your health at home. By health, we don’t mean only physical health but mental health. Some of us may not take mental health seriously, but it also plays a major role in our physical health. There is a belief that if you think you are healthy, you automatically become healthy. So to lead a happy and healthy life, you need to keep your mindset firm.

Now, many people may ask how do we achieve that? It’s okay to ask this question because we have just the correct answer for you. Having a stable mindset is not a one-day job. It will take time and patience.

It All Begins With Your Mindset

1. Get Rid Of All The Negative Thoughts

Now saying this is easy but doing it may be a bit of a twisted task. Whenever you feel bad about anything, don’t let it get a hold of your thoughts. Defend all the negative thoughts with good memories and thoughts, and think about the times you were the happiest. This may not help you the first time, but you will learn how powerful thoughts can be as you keep practicing.

2. Don’t Assume The Things You Are Not Sure About

There are certain things we are not sure about, and we keep thinking about them until we ourselves jump to a conclusion. The conclusion we come to may be far away from reality which does not help in any way. So, it is better to be on the safe side and not think too much than imagine things that may even be wrong.

3. Say No To Overthinking

If you keep thinking about the same thing over and over again, it may have a severe effect on your mental health. In this situation, talking with someone you trust can help you out, and you may feel better after you have cleared your mind. If you don’t feel like sharing, write down what you are thinking on clean paper and read it out loud. This will not let your feelings get bottled up.

4. Be Grateful For The Little Things

When it comes to feeling grateful, we may miss out on a few things that are of utmost significance. Every day after you wake up or before you go to sleep, mention at least five things that you are grateful for. Be it the intangible things like the sunlight or air or the tangible things like food or clothes, express your gratitude and feel thankful. This will lead to a positive change in your attitude as you practice this exercise.

5. Take Out Time For Yourself

Even if you have a tight schedule, always keep a slot empty for yourself. A long day at work calls for some personal time where you can do the things you like. Take out at least 40-45 minutes of time for yourself to listen to songs, draw, read books, sit with your loved ones, or do anything that helps you relax your mind. This will keep you refreshed and will allow the space for positive thoughts to enter.

All the above-mentioned tips may not give you the desired results in a day or two, but with regular practice, you can attain a healthy mind which eventually will help you with a healthy and fit body. Now, let’s talk about ways to take care of your physical health.

Physical Health Is The Key To Wellness

1. Exercise – A Healthy Choice

To keep your body good from the outside is not sufficient. You need to keep it maintained from the inside as well. Regular exercise keeps your body fit and gives you the required energy to stay charged all day long. Take out at least 20 minutes of your day’s time to exercise. If you are a beginner, you can start with basic exercises and a 10-minute walk post-meal.

2. Keep A Check On Your Diet

Our eating habits are directly proportional to our health. There is a saying, “Your diet is a bank account. Good food choices are good investments”. It is vital to keep a balanced diet which helps to boost your immunity and keeps various diseases at bay. If you need to munch in between your meals, choose options that are nutritious and delectable which will satisfy your cravings while keeping you healthy. The best of both worlds!

3. Give Your Body A Good Night’s Sleep

A sound sleep is fuel to your body which helps to charge it and keep it going the entire day. Before going to bed, take out 15 minutes to meditate. Meditation gives your body the feeling of relaxation and allows you to sleep like a baby. Don’t forget to go to the loo before sleeping. Otherwise, you will have to run like a baby. Haha!

4. Go For Regular Health Checkups

There might be some symptoms that we may not understand or notice. Regular visits to the doctor for checkups may help you find out if you are suffering from any disease or if your body is lacking something. Find a doctor within your circle or whom you trust. This will make it easy for you to talk about anything in particular.

Besides this, it is also essential to go for a full body check-up once in 6 to 12 months. Following these simple practices with consistency will give you a healthy mind and body.

What Is The Need To Self-Assess Your Health?

One thing we have learned in the past two years is that health risks may come anytime and anywhere. It is essential to know when your body is ailing. Here comes the need to self-assess your body. You can either perform a few tests at home or visit a doctor.  We recommend you see a doctor if the situation is out of control and cannot be taken care of at home. Measuring temperature and checking blood pressure or sugar level does not require expert supervision, but if you think the condition is getting critical, we suggest going to a doctor.

How To Measure Your Health And Feelings?

There’s no device or machine that can measure your feelings. You have to understand what you feel by observing your actions and behavior. If your thoughts are occupied with how to live a healthy lifestyle, and you are not able to follow it, we can help you with this. You cannot achieve your goal in one day. Before reaching your milestone, you need to take baby steps on a jovial journey. Don’t push yourself on the first day, but keep a persistent speed that will help you get a smooth-running schedule.

Here are the steps we believe everyone goes through in the journey of a sane mind and body.

Step 1 – Gaining The Strength To Workout

Feeling unhealthy yet not willing to workout is not an uncommon concept nowadays. You might notice some extra weight on your body that you may want to get rid of, but you will not feel impulsive enough to work out. This stage is completely normal because it takes time to rearrange your schedule. In such cases, it is important to make a time table and stick to it. Convince yourself to follow it no matter what and eventually it will become your habit.

Step 2 – Taking The Right Moves To A New You

If you need to change your routine, you must take the right shift. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, so the right first move is the most crucial one. Make a strong mind no matter what and take a proceed towards a sound and wholesome lifestyle.

Step 3 – Keep A Check On Your Plan

After you have taken the steps above, it won’t be much of a problem to move further. But make sure to move on the track you have decided for yourself and don’t procrastinate. Take a week off and let your body relax. Don’t overtire your body but let it remain calm and loosened.

Step 4 – Take Note Of The Changes

It is vital to observe the changes your body and mind go through while you strive to work for your goal. This way, you can keep track of the changes you went through and work on them in the near future if required.

Step 5 – Voila! You Have Reached Your Destination

Hard work never gets thrown away. It might take you some time to understand your goal and set the right mind for it, but once you start walking the path of a well-ordered routine, there is no obstacle to achieving a healthy mind and body.

Let’s Wrap Up

The journey to follow your goal may not be easy, but once you are determined to accomplish it, no one can stop you. Don’t think of it as a change you are willing to see but a reward that your body truly deserves. Our life is directly dependent on our genetics and lifestyle, and thus comes the need for a healthy diet, regular exercise, a soulful mind, and of course an understanding of your body’s blueprint, aka DNA. So, why wait? Begin your journey to a happy body, happy mind, and happy you, today!
